ART LOISAIDA, aka Los Artistas de Loisaida, is a multicultural group of painters, photographers, printmakers and sculptors, many of whom create work in, or inspired by, New York's community gardens. The Artistas’ 11th Annual Exhibition, "The WildLife of the Lower East Side", takes place this year at the Tompkins Square Library. The show celebrates the local “wildlife” to be found in the environs of the City’s Lower East Side. “WildLife” can be defined as both the flora and fauna of the neighborhood, as well as the vital eclectic life style that many of the residents have found here. The exhibition offers a visual statement that runs the gamut from humorous to serious, playful to solemn.

It is appropriate that "Wildlife," whose images of species native to park, tree or nightclub bon viviant, pigeon or hawk, squirrel or rat and their environs, should be on view across the street from Tompkins Square Park, the cultural intersect for many local residents. The images evoke the spirit of the times, as well as the vivid imaginations and phoenix-like creativity of New Yorkers from all walks of life. The show runs from June 4 through June 29th.
